Perch Report - HMB Beach

#1
Finally ran into a bit of success (and luck) at the beach the other evening just before high tide.

Caught two decent sized BSP within a few minutes of each other. Both males and the bigger of the two was just shy of 12". These perch fight pretty hard for their size! I kept both for dinner.

I used a fish finder rig with a 2-3 ft leader, 1 oz coin sinker, and a 2" gulp sand worm. I like this setup cause I can change weights easily without re-rigging.

I'm not great at reading the surf, so I just kept walking, casting into the trough, and focusing my attention on areas where there were a larger concentration of molted sand crab shells.

Sounds like you are on the right track. Nice fishing.

You must be doing something right to be catching fish! I normally will try to find the rip tides and cast around that area. Still learning to read the beach and surf fish!
