Went to the pier at 7am at peak low tide. Started with a three way rig with frozen anchovies and herring. Very windy that day, saw one shaker halibut at around 10. More people showed up around 12, and one guy caught some live smelt for bait and I started using some of that. Around this time, a seal showed up and fishing was slow. Nothing was around when the seal was here. A couple of guys tried to scare the seal away, but it still came back. One guy snagged a snail. Someone else caught a small sand shark around 4 and the seal got it as it was being released. I caught 2 small shakers at around 5, and I got a big bite around 5:40. Fought pretty hard for about 10 seconds, but the seal got it and dragged my rig under the pier. Saw another shaker landed, another rig dragged under the pier, and caught one more shaker. Called it a day at around 6:30, the seal would’ve eaten whatever I caught anyways. Any way to scare them away? Some guy was throwing sinkers at it and nailed it on the dome. Can we even do anything about the seals in the first place?
