Went out at 1:30pm at peak low tide on a calm and cloudy day. Already were a bunch of halibut fishermen there already and I heard that a 30 incher and a bat ray had been caught. Most of the guys were using live anchovies and conventionals in clamp on rod holders. I only had frozen anchovies and herring. Some guy was casting out really small crabs that the caught of the pier in crab nets on fishfinder rigs. Perch maybe? Who knows. Not sure if they were dungeness or slender crab because they were thumb sized, so the legality could be questionable? No shiners on sabikis, gave up and threw a three way rig with dead bait on my spinning rod. Got a few nibbles, but nothing much. By 3pm, 4 small shakers were caught. By 4 or 5, all of them had left, and a guy left me about 20 live anchovies out of his bait tank. Thanks for that, if you’re out there. I put out both my rods on the now empty pier and waited. At around 6, a guy showed up with shark/ray gear and casted out squid. He got a ray within 5 minutes, and when I was netting it, my halibut rod bent over. I told him to grab it, as I went and got his net as my other one was tangled up with a bat ray. Finally got it in the net with tangled rope, and it was keeper size at just a bit over 22”. Saw the other guy catch a small shaker on a live anchovy. Left at around 7:30 and left whatever live anchovies that I had.
