November on the Central Coast

#1
Since this report is a month late, I’m putting all of my November trips together. October and November have turned out to be the two best months of the year for fishing. Water and weather have been good. I keep a fishing log of my trips and since we moved up to the Central Coast 15 years ago, these months have been traditionally the best months for fishing. Fishing technique has been the same, bait fishing right in the rocks for rockfish. Every time I cast out, that’s what I want to catch. Same rod, same reels, same tackle, same spots. But it’s still fun. And it’s still important to keep moving from spot to spot.

First trip, some nice grassies:

Second trip:
Two black and yellows. My wife’s favorite eating fish.

Two more grassies

Trip three, more nice grassies

Trip four: the best fish of the month, a 16” grass rockfish. The only bite all day.

And now, time for some fishcakes Labor intensive, but worth it.

Best time of the year on the Central Coast.

Thanks for the report! Nice catches!

How deep are you fishing for these fish? I'm assuming it's more shallow than the 300+ feet that I was the only time I went rock fishing.

I didn't have that much fun when I was fishing for rock fish because of the depth and the weight that was required to get my rig down to the bottom at that depth.

I am assuming that fishing shallower depths for rock fish is more fun.
