No one fishing?

I'm a sissy--too cold for me. :ROFLMAO:

True enough! And when the wind comes up, it can get bitter out there. Especially if the fishing is slow, which it can be when the water temperature is also chilly. Add a lingering moon to that (I do better when between moonset and moonrise) and you have the ingredients for tedium. You'd get more action watching someone play golf.

That's one reason for less angling going on. Another is New Year's Day, which to many of us still means family time, the same as in Christmas. I did get out for a couple hours today, hoping for some perch wrestling on light tackle. Wanted to get out before the outdoor activity folks arrived in great congregations. Weekends and holidays are not my favorite fishing times. Moreover, I do like having more daytime than post-solstice allows.

Had great bait today: foraged pile worms in good sizes. SLOW... Had time to listen to an album side between each bite. Maybe three nibbles total, one of which did resolve into a splendid little battle with a hefty black perch. Released, as with all local pogies. But it proved my new fishing license was operating.

Overall, despite these large incoming tides (6ft->7ft), the last two big cycles have been pretty unremarkable. Nothing to text home about.

Went to Ocean Beach SF area yesterday for crabbing. Got a keeper 30 min in, but only one other short in the few hours I was out. Kinda disappointing. And yes, very cold. Maybe my snares need some reworking.

The birds, however, were feasting like crazy. They were flying everywhere. A school of anchovies was a few hundred yards offshore. One live one washed up on the surf.

Walk on the Baker Beach today. Only two guys crabbing. One get two crabs for four hours, another guy - nothing.
Is crabbing diminished already? What months are the best ( I heard Nov and Dec) and what the worst for crabbing?
I mean - dungeness crabs.

look at commercial fleet placing traps along the cost, do you believe people at piers and beaches have any chance?
