Kind of eerie. Four years ago, on May 17, 2022, I took a picture of a night heron on the Balboa Pier and posted it to Facebook.
The other day, on May 17, 2026 I opened the memory page of Facebook (which I check each morning), saw that picture of the heron but didn't repost it. However, 4-5 minutes after seeing that picture I heard a loud screeching sound outside and went into my back porch and looked around. I didn't see anything. Then my wife said "look at the neighbor's roof." Sitting up on the corner was a night heron almost identical to that one I saw four years ago to the day.
I haven''t seen a night heron in all the years we have lived in Fresno but there was one, like I said, four years to the day after I saw the one at the Balboa Pier (and they're common on SoCal piers). Kind of weird.
