It was mentioned halibut numbers in So Cal are about 14% of their historic totals and that stocks are somewhat depleted. Would CADFW consider reducing the daily limit to two or three instead of just leaving the five fish limit in place?
I find it interesting how the new halibut develop the migrating eye. Note how often the eye shifts from left to right or right to left:
Right-eyed predominance: The vast majority of Pacific halibut are "right-eyed," meaning both eyes are on the right side of their head.
Rare left-eyed individuals: Left-eyed halibut are extremely rare, reportedly occurring in a ratio of about 1 in 20,000. In these cases, the eyes and dark pigment are on the left side of the body.
California Halibut: California halibut can be either right-eyed or left-eyed, with approximately 60% being left-eyed dominant.
