With BIG apologies to Woody Guthrie, I've been trying to come up with a poem/song/whatever that changes "This Land Is Your Land" to "This Pier is Your Pier." But, I'm sure that many of you can do a better job than me. How about adding your own stanzas and we come up with a Pier Rat Nation version of "This Pier Is Your Pier?"

THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND — words and music by Woody Guthrie

Chorus:

This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me

As I was walking a ribbon of highway
I saw above me an endless skyway
I saw below me a golden valley
This land was made for you and me

Chorus

I've roamed and rambled and I've followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me

Chorus

The sun comes shining as I was strolling
The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
The fog was lifting a voice come chanting
This land was made for you and me

Chorus

As I was walkin' - I saw a sign there
And that sign said - no tress passin'
But on the other side .... it didn't say nothin!
Now that side was made for you and me!

Chorus

In the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office - I see my people
And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.

Chorus:

This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me

This pier is your pier, this pier is my pier — Pier Rat version

From Capitola, to Catalina Island
From Trinidad and the redwood forests
To the deep-water piers at Newport
This pier was made for you and me

As I was walking a wooden planking
I saw above me a flock of seabirds
I saw below me mussel covered pilings
This pier was made for you and me

This pier is your pier, this pier is my pier
From Crystal Pier, to Shelter Island
From Crescent City and the redwood forests,
To the sands and clams at Pismo Beach
This pier was made for you and me

I’ve roamed and rambled and I’ve followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her saltwater seashore
And all around me a voice was sounding
This pier was made for you and me

This pier is your pier, this pier is my pier
From Pacifica, to the Angel Island
From the cement ship at Seacliff
To the pipeline reef at Goleta
This pier was made for you and me

The sun comes shining as I was strolling
The kelp forests waving and the bait balls rollin’
The fog was lifting a voice come chanting
This pier was made for you and me

This pier is your pier, this pier is my pier
From Citizens Dock, to the Imperial Beach Pier
From Santa Cruz and the redwood forests
To the crowded shores of Santa Monica Bay
This pier was made for you and me

As I was driving that coastal highway
I saw before me a golden sunset
I saw below me a glowing Seacliff
This pier was made for you and me

This pier is your pier, this pier is my pier
From Berkeley, to Cayucos
From Point Arena and the redwood forests
To the cove and pier called Paradise
This pier was made for you and me

As I was walkin’ — I saw a pier sign there
And that pier sign said — no tresspassin’
But on the other side ... it didn’t say nothin’
Now that pier was made for you and me!

This pier is your pier, this pier is my pier
From Pismo Beach, to Seal Beach
From Monterey and its sea otters floatin’
To Huntington Beach and its surfers a floatin’
This pier was made for you and me

On the surface of the pier — In the shadow of the Lifeguard Station
Near the bait shop a openin’ — I see my people
And some are grumblin’ and some are wonderin’
If this pier’s still made for you and me.

This pier is your pier, this pier is my pier
From Imperial Beach to Crescent City
From the redwood forest, to the Pacific Ocean
This pier was made for you and me

I was hoping you might jump in with some better verses and a little more rhyme since you have a way for words that I've never been able to match. But, it is a little hard given the (pier) names we have to deal with...
