Monterey Wharf No 2. 12/07/2026

Hey everyone, long time no see 🤣👍

I recently got a job near Monterey, so now I have plenty of time to check out the piers. Yesterday I noticed a pinoy couple catching squid with a construction light and old school squid jigs on Wharf 2, so today I brought my Yozuri mini Aurora and joined the fun. Did pretty well, got to know them pretty well and had a great time. Fished from 5:26pm-7:56pm. Really cold and windy, by California standards 😆. IMG_9801.jpeg

Nice! I've never caught squid before. I enjoy eating them too, so it's a missed opportunity for me. Can you post more details on how you caught them? Thanks!

No problem! I used a pink Yozuri Mini Aurora squid jig tied to a dropper loop about 15 inches above my 1oz torpedo sinker. My outfit is balanced for surf perch, a Daiwa 8’6” mh rod with a Shimano Symetre and 30 lb PowerPro with a 15lb fluorocarbon leader.

We fished under the light of an industrial lamp, the type at hardware stores for working projects. It was hooked up to a pretty powerful battery, don’t have a pic of it. I’ll try to get more pics Friday, if I go out again.
