Making Your Own Metal Jigs

#61
have you tried contact cement? I have used contact cement on hot stamped foil, which turns out fine. I don't use nail foil because I tends to do big lures.
Nail foils on aliexpress come 4 cm wide by 120 meters for $5-6 a roll. Plenty to do more than hundreds of big lures.
Basically same as hot stamped foil but way cheaper.

I am looking at some of the Ball Head Jig Systems......They have me interested.......and I see your point....Just not in the budget when you are needing a new vehicle.....Plaster of Paris will work.......It just takes up to 2 weeks for the mold to properly dry before use.....How do your silicone molds hold up to frequent use......and do they have issues with getting too hot to handle

mold is sandwiched between stiff wood pcs and held together with bar clamp while pouring.
can't tell you how many pours, easy to duplicate mold. Commercial lead molds for spin casting also made of silicone ....

Soooo.........I have been watching a lot of videos from Japan and other Countries in Asia and I might be over complicating the whole Micro Jig thing......Many are just fishing plain Torpedo Weights with Assist Hooks on them and using THEM as Jigs......I am PAINTING mine.....But will make a few Jigs along the same concept .........Pics to follow

I paint my torpedo weights so they don’t corode that bad. Should be a tip too because I’m sure that lead dust isn’t good for you.

You ever try that stuff that you dip and harden with a UV light. I’ve seen my older bro do it on his crappie jigs. I don’t know what it’s called though. He had like yellow, pink, n green.

Etex environmental lite epoxy which I buy at Michael's (look for discount coupon)
I also use Etex to color my jigs by adding different color micas and glow powder
also use ETex as white primer by addint titanium dioxide powder
also use Etex to apply nail foils
Takes about 10 hours to dry ..

UV cure stuff doesn't work where the sun don't shine ....so I am not sure how it would work with colors
Solarez UV cure resins is clear

I am starting to think that using powdered pigments and 2-part epoxy finish is going to be the way to go with getting my jigs they way I want them......LOTS of powdered pigments in my Amazon Cart at the moment.......How do you use an epoxy with a 10 hour dry time to apply your nail foils......you have me wondering

Now a Pier Rat from back in the day....I think his name was Monte Weatherby......USED to work for Jacquard Products...and their Lumiere Paints, esp their Duo-Tones, and Pearl-Ex Powdered Pigments were some of the best I have ever worked with.......You might want to give them a look

tkbtrading.com for micas, their sample packet is more than enough - go for the neons. search for fluorescent....
Search tackleunderground for application info (applying etex to foil)....
There is a small window of time when the etex turns from liquid to solid when it sticks to both jig and foil.. That period of time is depending of temperature, substrate, the foil material, and how thick a coating is applied. Applyihg etex to a test material at the same time will help you determine that moment. the foil materials on aliexpress is so thin and cheap, that if you make a mistake just do it again right on top.

Ok I thought about it a little more. Its either two things. I remember there was powdered pigment. It’s either that powder coat stuff that you heat up to cure then the added a uv cured top coat. Or it’s that uv cured stuff for women’s nails where they put a cured clear on their nail, dust on pigment, use the uv light, then put another clear uv cured coat on top. I think it’s the 2nd. He might have gotten the idea from when his wife did her nails. Either way, it’s uv cured clear over some sort of color.

Nice handiwork, I must hand it to you. I saw a bloody decks post on how a guy had managed to get a tuna on a torpedo sinker on a hook, and now I’m making a couple 3,2, and 1 ounce jigs. I’m just slapping on a coat of nail polish and adding hooks. Here’s a pic of an older one I hammered out, and my newer ones. I’ll see if I can get them tested on the water any time soon. Considering old timer jigs, especially the vintage Norwegian cod ones were just lead with hooks in them, I think these will work. Try APPLIANCE EPOXY SPRAY PAINT for your white and black base coats......works well for me.......I had some expensive airbrush paints that dried up......I re-hydrated them and I am using them as a dip paint for some of my lures.......Pics when I can get to them

Been watching people make lures on YouTube, even molds out of plaster, I think..? The guy was calling it something else. White cement, what ever that means. Looks like that 5 min plaster to me.
Yea, I hate messing with photo sizes.
