Sometime in the to mid ’60 years, not sure the date, I bought a book that I considered my Bible for pier fishing (even though it covered all types of fishing). It was How to Fish the Pacific Coast by Ray Cannon.
I read that book cover to cover, studied it assiduously, and tried out all of the various suggestions on bait and tackle. I also, for the first time, really began to study the various species of fish using his book.
In time, I would find myself duplicating his format somewhat when I wrote my books and was pleased when people began to call the second edition of Pier Fishing in California the Bible for pier fishing.
Today I still have several different editions of Mr. Cannon’s book including what I consider one of the most valued books in my library. It is a signed first edition that on the inside cover says: “To a good fishing friend Carl E York. Here is to a full creel and a fuller life. Ray Cannon, May 29, 1953 – 6th book
