How much money do you spend per year on fishing?

I'm not trying to be nosy but at the conference I attended this week there was an economist discussing how they estimate angler's contributions to an area's economy. Based upon the questions and answers it is clear to me that little attention is paid to the contributions of pier and shore anglers (which is generally the case).

Would you be willing to provide a ballpark estimate? I will not use any names but would like to have some more concrete data the next time this issue comes up.

I keep track of my expenses and am sometimes surprised how much I have actually spent over the course of a year's fishing trips.

Money spent yearly on equipment, bait and tackle, travel (gas) to and from fishing spots, food, parking fees, bridge tolls, motels, fishing license, fishing shows, fishing magazines/newspapers, donations, etc.

Thanks in advance.

A license is what I usually consistently spend the most on. About around $53.74?

I’m usually good with gas because I plan fishing trips with other activities in the area, like shopping. So, maybe around $50.

I usually don’t eat when I’m alone.

As for parking, it all depends what car I’m driving but I’ll say $20

Bait? I’ll usually get my own but sometimes buying fresh anchovies from the Asian food stores will add up to another $20.

For tackle, it varies. I mostly have what I need and take good care of my stuff BUT some years I get tempted with good deals or discover that there is something missing from my arsenal. Those are the times I am really bad. THIS was a BAD year.

Fred Hall shows.

Long Beach was $20. Bro drove. Bought a shared package deal 9’ Phenix blank for $40.

In n out double double combo $6.70.

San Diego $15 but I paid for my friend so $30. He drove. Didn’t buy anything.

In n out double double combo $6.70.

Day At The Docs was about $3 gas, to and from. I bought 3 Penn aluminum spools for $2 a pop. Got a Newelled out mint Penn 140 Squidder for $25. Got accused of trying to steal, by some *ss hole vender. It was his mistake by pricing the rod incorrectly. His helper defended us. That was FREE. Got 3 Caivo lures for $5.

Spent $10 for corn dogs n hot dogs with drink.

The EVIL internet got me bad this year. $30 bucks for a new ABU Garcia Ambassadeur 4600 C3 reel. $40 on a Lews Lazer reel. $70 new Dawa 8:1 Tatula Reel. $40 for a new mint Shimano Citica B 5:1 reel. Get this. I was using an old tablet and a double tap caused me to hi bid ($55) on a clean Shimano bantam mag 1000 tournament reel. They are good spoon reels though. (Excuses) Last, I spent $20 on reel parts for me and my younger bro. I’m helping him rebuild and repair an old lefty Shimano Black Magnum FS reel.

Dang! I didn’t know I was that bad..

Added up to $551.14

travel+food (700) + hooks/line/sinkers (150) + lures/fly-tying materials/tools (300) + bait (70) + poles/reels (300) clothing/misc (200) = 1,720. These are estimates...it wouldn't surprise me if it was double.

Generally I place an order with tackle warehouse once a month, sometimes more, and that will average about 75 dollars per. This will include my bread and butter swimbaits/jigs for plugging stripers and various other terminal tackle. - 75x12= $900

Fishing license x 2 since I always pay for my girlfriend’s license as well - $96.68

I’ll go through an average of atleast 4 spools of braid per year $85

So far this year I’ve purchased two new rods at 300 each. - $600

Picked up a tatula hd on sale for $135

20 bucks would cover my gas/ bridge tolls fishing atleast twice a week across the gg bridge- 80x12= $960

Atleast 4 times a year we camp and rockfish on the coast, the trip normally runs us about 250 bucks for food/gas/camp fees-$1000

The biggest kicker is my new obsession with big glide baits that range from 75 and up.... $600 so far this year.

That totals up to $4,376.68 for a 100% shore angler.

Worth every damn penny.

Well i would have to say i spend at least $3000 on fishing. That includes everything from bait to lures and everything between, which i dont think is that bad for a year worth of fishing

travel+food (700) + hooks/line/sinkers (75) + lures (100) + bait (50) + poles/reels (300) clothing/misc (300), license/fees (100)= 1625. These are estimates.

I am sure with what I have bought this year that it is well over a thousand dollars. I updated my fishing gear, and I buy Sabikis by the dozens as I want them in good shape so I throw them out when I lose hooks on them. There is also my decal for parking which is $75.00 plus yearly.
