How many read the articles? Too long?

I have at times considered a more restricted forum, or two forums, one closed and more advanced for the regulars and one for lurkers. However, from day one the purpose of the site was mainly education and it seems we would lose part of the ability to educate if we made those changes.

"from day one the purpose of the site was mainly education and it seems we would lose part of the ability to educate if we made those changes." - Ken Jones

With that statement, you cut to the heart of the matter, Mr. Ken. This site has always been so much more than just a message board to post reports. Your book and this site, have always been about elevating and honoring the sport of coastal fishing. It is as much a teaching ministry ( especially the ethics, behavior, and respect for the ocean required of us), as it is a place to read reports and get information that might help us catch more fish. If you keep that mission statement ever before you, it will become much easier to divine what changes (if any) to try out.

I am keenly aware of these higher parameters, which is why I "chime in" only if I have a question or information that furthers the goal of education. I don't post a report every time I go fishing if that "report" would be a "copy and paste" of earlier reports with a different date. Despite my advanced age, there are many, many anglers that post on PFIC that have clearly FORGOTTEN more about fishing than I will ever know. That being the case, I only post when I have a question, or on the rare occasions when I actually have something that might add to the conversation.

Keep on keepin' on Mr. Ken. you are one of my mentors and heroes.

I was talking to a member that said most viewers probably do not read the articles; they are too long. Most people today just want a very short, couple of paragraph, description that covers the basics.

True? Here's four articles, how many have read them?

Cabrillo Mole, Avalon, Catalina

San Clemente Pier

https://www.pierfishing.com/san-clemente-pier/

California Yellowtail

California Halibut

Hi Ken,

I have read all your articles and enjoy the attention to details and historical information. I also have both of your books 1st and 2nd edition.

I found this site in the last 2 years when planning a trip to S. Cal. I read the articles and find them helpful for someone looking to learn more about fishing the piers. I say "well done". If there are some who find the articles too long, guess what...they don't have to read them. As for me, keep the info coming, I'm already thinking about my next trip. So far I have fished Crystal Pier and the San Clemente Pier.
