Holiday Purchase

Hello.

I got a new reel over the holidays - Daiwa Exceler 2000D.

I plan to use it for both surf and pier fishing. I was looking for a light weight reel and this seems to fit nicely in terms of price and weight. My first impression is that it is both smooth and light weight especially for the price I got it for. This reel retails for $100 but I got it in sale for a bit under $80 including taxes. (Amazon)

At the time I purchased it the Daiwa BG 2000 was also on sale on Amazon. I trust the Daiwa BG but I'm prioritizing weight.

I spooled it up with Seaguar Smackdown 20 lbs (with mono backing) that I purchased many years ago and cannot wait until the weather warms up to go fishing. I don't have first-hand experience with Seaguar Smackdown braid but I like it over Daiwa J-Braid as it is a bit stiffer which makes tying knots easier. I'm using Seaguar Red Label 20 lb flourcarbon for leader. This line is pretty stiff which I don't mind but it has memory. It kept popping off the spool and coiled up like a slinky. In the trash it goes.

Thanks for reading!

What fishing gear have you bought?

Unfortunately I am in the process of moving/downsizing and actually getting rid of some old reels and rods.. But, I still have quite a few that I rarely use so Pat keeps wondering why I don't get rid of more. However, I don't see her getting rid of the shoes that she rarely wears. We differ.

Congratulations on the purchase and let us know how your new reel works out.

Thanks and I will certainly make a post review after some time in the water.

Nothing wrong with downsizing. The old reels are tanks however are heavier than the modern ones. As for Pat's shoes -- you are a true gentleman. ;)(y)
