Not to put a damper on the news, but I've also received reports of how BAD the situation can be.

• "Ferry Point is unfishable now."

• "No parking spaces at all, and that includes the street."

• "Garbage everywhere."

• "These herring runs bring out the worst in people (and would turn the Code of Ethics on its head) and inundate the regular anglers."

People should show some respect for the pier environment as well as other anglers. Pick up the trash, don't be rude to others, and make it a fun experience for those involved. When handled correctly there should be enough fish for everyone AND people should be able to leave the pier as clean or cleaner than when they arrived. Let's not be a mob out there.

No damper Ken.
•No fish to be caught until run dissipates
•Not enough garbage cans there even with regular crowd
•Now, there wasn’t much parking

I wouldn’t say ‘brings out the worst in people.’
You are what you are; don’t blame it on a crowd or a run of herring.

I'm just giving a report I received. I do agree that there are never enough garbage cans there AND it's rarely a pristine pier even when the crowds are small. A lot of people just don't seem to care any more. It's true on piers and almost any park or public area you go to.

‘T weren’t PFIC people... so, they didn’t here about the spawn here... :D
Any regular for the pier would know better than to go anywhere near FP if they actually had any intention of “fishing.”

It was pretty crowded last Sunday and I didn’t encounter any rude behavior. Not your typical Eastbay group, probably seeing a different demographic from other parts of the SF Bay Area. Gotta admit it was an awesome run with no competition from the commercial boats.

Nice pic Glen, Probably not a good idea to bring up demographics since it can be misinterpreted as a racist comment. I’ll be more careful with my words in the future. Probably should have rephrased it as coming together of all weekend herring castnetters throughout the Bay Area descending upon Ferry Point to harvest this amazing fish. Not your ordinary pierfishing crowd.

I was thinking about the sociology of this whole thing. I would say it is a class issue over race (in one sentence).
Good job on the clean up “O.”

There is a newer report:
Richardson Bay Herring Spawn Report
(2/12/2019)

Sausalito herring on the fathometer
CDFW photo

A new herring spawn was detected in the Richardson Bay anchorage (near Sausalito) on Monday this week. Rafts of birds and a few marine mammals marked the spawn area. A herring school could also be seen on the fathometer

Here is another one:
New post on CDFW Pacific Herring Management News

Point Molate Spawn Report
by Ryan Bartling
CDFW staff sampled a herring spawn near Point Molate yesterday.

Eelgrass and herring eggs: CDFW

Weekend reports indicated an increase in bird activity around the area and a check of the eelgrass bed yielded a few herring eggs. Small numbers of birds remained but based on sampling of the subtidal areas, the spawn was relatively small in size. Stay tuned for more updates.

I guess around the 16rt, 17th. Nothing now however except for some mud hens (coots) around eating the last eggs.
Some striper I heard have been caught in the last week (but I imagine on the right tides: halfway in or halfway out).

There is still some talk about small schools on and of around Richardson.
Okay, good news, that gives me an idea about the fishing around there. I talked to someone at Bay Tackle today and they told me there was a small school of herring two days ago just in the north end of Point Molate (by EastBrothers Lighthouse). But no gamefish.
