Halibut Poaching SF Bay

Poacher seized with over 2000 Lbs of Halibut! This story popped up on San Francisco KRON4 News this morning.

It's a good headline, but if more effort was made to stop the everyday minor violators, wouldn't it be better? I know catching violators with several hundred pounds of illegaly harvested fish is a good thing, but what happens to the smaller violators?
I don't think there's a quick answer, but it would serve to discourage pier poachers.
2000 lbs.... thats a ton of fillets. At least they won't go to waste.

Harder to catch pier poachers I would guess... Most of the poachers I saw would catch their undersized creature
and then leave. Some would just be blatant, but those were the ones who would get caught when the warden
would randomly show up (If the warden showed up?)

In the post it looked he had caught Pacific halibut didn't he also poach a significant amount of king salmon

I think it just said Salmon fillets... not sure which type but I think King is all that runs in the SF Bay isn't it?
