Got Me a Flutter Lure Mold

#24
I am experimenting with using 3M type 77 Spray Adhesive and starting to get good results....my results are better with a coat od appliance epoxy spray paint down first.......With your heat transfer foil you need to use an iron to heat the pad and then you quickly put down the foil....the lure.....then you press down hard with another pad and keep pressure for 30 seconds or so.......

I think the hot stamping foil has a layer of adhesive that reacts to heat and pressure. The nail foils don't have any adhesive on them.
There is also toner reactive foil that has adhesive that only sticks to laser toner or plastic. And a hot stamping foil that sticks to plastisol
by applying heat and pressure. A little confusing to find the right foil!

Nothing sticks to bare lead well. Several layers of white primer are recommended before applying the foil. I tried 3m spray 77, didn't work for me.

The 3M spray is a little tricky......But it works pretty well for me........I was just not letting the spray DRY enough before adding the foils......I am using Black Appliance Epoxy Spray Paint for my base coat.......just one layer works fine before the 3M and then the foil..........My car DIED.....So my lure making might be put on hold for a while until I get a handle on budgeting my money for the payments on a new car and the increased cost of insurance.....

I got a 24 pack of the cheapo nail foils from Amazon for like $11.........All of the silly patterns I gave to my GF or one of my god daughters.....MOST of the pack will work well for lures though.........You can also use aluminum foil.....aluminum tape......and copper tape for lures.......

Are you going to go Assist Hooks with those or Trebles?...........Personally I am not a big fan of trebles......Esp if I plan to catch and release
Yes, I'll put on assist hooks. Sorry to hear about your car problem. I'll try the heating method again once the silicone pad arrive.

You will like it i'm sure. I tried it out in my local pond and got some strikes but no hookup. The single assist hook did not work well. I use 50 lbs braid for the assist hook, and it tends to tangle with the main line. That's why I did not get any hookups. I'll put a siwash hook at the end and see how it goes.

I have heard about the same issue with these lures......that is why a lot of people use the "assist cord" to make the assist hooks.....it is stiffer and has a larger diameter and is SUPPOSED to be less prone to tangling......I was using 30#, 65#, and 80# braid for mine and might have the same issues

100lb or more kevlar cord for tying assist hook. To stiffen put shrink tubing over the hook knot area.
Can't put shrink tubing over pe braid because it has super low melting point.
Does this make sense?

Yes...... but I don't have anything like 100# Kevlar......I might just have to do treble hooks on the lures until I get something figured out.....
