Community Walk Through CANCELLED- 12-5-20

Hello Community Member,

Thank you for registering to participate in the Prop 68 Community Walk Through scheduled for tomorrow, December 5th at 10am, unfortunately, due to the pending shelter-in-place order for Contra Costa County and the Bay Area Region which prohibits gatherings of any size, the City has decided to take precautionary safety measures and cancel the Community Walk Through. Staff will record photo and video footage of the proposed site plan to create a virtual walk through for further community input. This video will be incorporated into our next virtual Community Workshop scheduled for Tuesday, December 15th from 5:30pm-7pm. The agenda and zoom link will be provided closer to the date. More information will also be posted on the City website, www.cityofmartinez.org, once available.

In an effort to keep you informed with the latest Prop 68 grant information, I will add your email to our the Prop 68 Grant email interest list for future updates. If you do not wish to be part of this email list, please let me know.

Thank you,
Veronica

Some serious proposed changes for the Martinez Pier and its surrounding area. Final proposal and budget for additions and changes. The primary thing I see missing is the replacement of the defunct lighting system of the pier itself.

Mike, thank you for the information! Pretty detailed plans that are going to take a lot of $$. We need to find out about the lights.

Is the underwater cable that runs parallel to the pier still there? If so, removal of that tackle snagging cable should be one of the main priorities. I can't imagine the amount of lead and hooks that have accumulated over the years on that cable.

Interesting thought! I don't imagine they've considered that question given the overall ideas discussed in the plans. Of course the answer might depend upon the cable itself, what is it and is it still used in some capacity? I imagine it is something dating back decades and no longer in use but I don't know.

The AT&T cable is still there. While I've heard it’s no longer in service those are rumors and just that, rumors. At the far left end there was a sign posted at the base of the pier for many, many years to not anchor close to the pier itself. When the fire happened and they made some repairs to open it back up it was moved up and relocated to the backside of the pier on the pilings. It has since been torn off, most likely by vandals. The steel door was ripped off at the end where the testing station is and most likely thrown over the rail at some point approximately around a year ago. About 6 months ago the door was replaced at that end.
