First dorado from a California pier?

I talked to Peter Phu today at Angler’s Tackle in Oceanside, a knowledgeable and reputable angler and shop owner. He said he didn't have a full report from the Oceanside Harbor Pier but he did have one interesting report. An angler had caught a 3-foot-long "dorado" from the small pier in the harbor. Someone told Peter about it and he sent one of his staff down to take a picture. The worker was off today but Peter is going to try to get me all the details and a copy oif the picture.

First dorado I've heard of being caught at a California pier.

I thought there were a couple of dodos that were caught off Ocean Side Pier back around 96 or 97. I think it was covered on one of the local news channels.

It would have to have been in 1996 since I started doing the monthly reports in March 1997 and one of my best reports was from the Oceanside Pier. If they had gotten a dorado I would have heard sbout it. But maybe in 1996?

My first thought was 96 but those were both good years so I lost track.

You heard about the Black Skipjack that showed for three days at Imperial Beach Pier in 2015? Everybody made the promise to keep quiet the first day and nobody went to work the next day. Lol Nasty fish if you don't prep them right. They have to be bled and prepped to be eaten raw. Any heat to the meat and it's cat food. (throw up face)

Three small random Sierra were caught by different people that year also.
