After a monotonous streak of using nothing but 80cent a pound chicken carcasses from Chinatown for my last few crabbing trips, I’m getting curious at what could potentially be good crab bait. Realistically any thing that fits in the cage of a crab net would work, But any thoughts from the rest of you guys?

When up in Mendocino, we use salmon heads and rockfish carcasses after they are cleaned from the half day boat trips. Works better than squid or chicken.

What's the best way to keep the seals away? Will the furballs go after chicken? Is this why some prefer it over fish?
I’ve had seals prefer the chicken over fish at times. For me personally, crack open a few holes in some cans of cat/dog food and that’ll work for crabs and keep the seals away.
