Tried my luck with some evening fishing at San Clemente pier on Monday. I haven't done this before. I fished from 4:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

I was rewarded with a mixed bag catch that included:

Pacific Chub Mackerel (11)
Topsmelt (3)
Yellowfin Croaker (1)
Black Croaker (1)
White Seabass (undersize) (1)

I kept the mackerel and used the smelt as live bait. Had one hit with the smelt. The other fish were released.

When the night settled in. My bait started to get the attention of crabs, lobsters and snails. I managed to bring a lobster to the surface before it got off. I did catch something unusual and new. It was a Wavy Turban Snail. (I had to research this!) See photos.

Overall, a fun session, capped with a great sunset!

Good luck everyone.

My dad, and old Kauai boy would've loved that snail. Are there any regulations re: keeping those shellfish?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) indicated commercial fishing license needed for commercial fishing. No mention of any size or limit regulations for sport fishing. Some regulations regarding the taking of invertebrates in tide zones.

See DFG.CA.GOV @ https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov for pdf article for California Wavy Turban snail. Interesting article.
