Fished one of the east bay piers on monday from 7:30 in the morning till 2:30 in the afternoon. My girlfriend caught a striper off live smelt I had netted around 8:30 and almost immediately after we were paid a visit by the game warden. He just took a look at the fish, decided it was legal without measuring it or taking it out of the water, and left. It was windy and difficult to get bait but we couldn't get away with fishing with the better weather during mothers day weekend. No regulars or anyone else fishing live bait while we were there but a couple small bat rays and perch (mostly walleye) were landed by other anglers. Later in the day I netted what I think are baby salmon smolt attached is a photo. I am not positive about this ID and seeking confirmation. In my conversation with the warden he concurred this has been a pretty rough halibut season so far, all over the bay. Perhaps I was spoiled by the generosity of last season. How has it been going for all of you?
