Doheny Beach and Dana Point Jetty

Spent the day here. Was a comedy of errors, featuring everything from forgetting my parking pass for the state park parking lot to leaving my fishing license at home in my jacket pocket. Bought a jacket, bought a license reprint, finally started fishing around 3pm even though I left home at about 9am and arrived at the beach around 11am.

Jetty action was slow, nobody seemed to be catching anything. Those I spoke to all said that they hadn't even had nibbles.

Walking the beach I managed a single barred surf perch using a carolina rig with 3/4 oz sinker. 18 inch 10lbs test fluro leader, size 4 baitholder with a gulp camo sandworm about 2 inches long. Was a decent sized perch compared to last week, but still let it go.

Next week thinking about hitting a pier, but not sure which one. Anyone going to be out fishing, either very late Fri night or on Sat morning?

Recently I had a day of "comedy of errors".

I made the mistake of not having my license when going on a Sand Dab boat trip. I bought a day license.

Then I saw another angler, go on line and from the F&W website get a PDF of his license. The boat operator accepted that. I guess to make money the operator failed to tell me to do the same.

I may be going to San Clemente pier tomorrow. Let me know if you can go there to look for you.

I think it's slightly cheaper to just get a re-print of your license... plus you have an extra copy of your license handy
just in case. I'm keeping one in my wallet and one in my fishing gear.

Is the PDF copy valid? I specifically looked up in fishing regulations and it was pretty specific that you had to have a physical copy of your license on you or nearby (and then went on about keeping it away from heat to prevent it from discoloring due to the thermal ink reacting).

I would love to meet you there, but unfortunately I'm much too far away from the ocean to go fishing on a work-day. Do you know anyone nearby that's hiring for general technical/management/office work? :) If I could make afternoon trips to fish it would drastically increase my mental health!

It looks more and more like I'll hit San Clemente pier on Saturday morning though, hopefully around 6am so I can get a spot on the street at the meters (are there metered spaces open at this time? I hope!).

There is street parking and two parking lots by the pier. No fee after 5:00 PM.

No as to employment contacts.

The boat landing employee accepted the PDF.
Maybe wardens won't, but these days many of proofs are accepted via Smartphones.

Yep. I'm looking forward to when (if? No, it must be when!) DFW accepts digital copy of fishing
license on smartphone... Planning to get lifetime license at end of this year and it will make it even
better since you won't have to redeem it every year to get physical copy!
