Dana Point Harbor/Malibu Pier

#1
Good morning everyone,

A couple late reports from over the past couple weeks.

November 8th, 2020 - Hit up Dana Point Harbor Pier. No major excitement but plenty of jacksmelt going around. If you have youngins, bring the cheap cartoon Target rods with a sabiki and they'll be entertained for hours. Croaker are still biting with the occasional big one that comes around. Other than that, no major excitement there. I did watch a couple guys pull some decent lobsters up in their hoops.

November 14th, 2020 - Hit up Malibu Pier while visiting family up in LA County. Took my little brother and let him entertain himself with some off - brand lures he got from Amazon; to his success, he caught a 10 inch mackerel. Plenty of mackerel all around the pier. If that's your forte, then by all means - but there's so many it almost took the fun out of fishing when you can watch them bite your bait. We caught over 30 mackerel in less than an hour and it wasn't slowing down even as we were leaving. Also caught a decent sized jacksmelt. Major hits on my heavy action setup with fresh mackerel, but no takers.

Hope all is well. I will be hitting up San Clemente Pier this Saturday then will be heading up to Kern River for the Thanksgiving holiday to dust off the trout rods and escape the city counties during these weird times.

Best,

Ian

Thanks for the report! I know the schedule is tight but would love a report from San Clemente as my girlfriend I and will be there for the first time on Sunday!
