Crab opener

Gonna head out to pacifica pier for the crab opener. Anybody else going on opener day?

Not me, done with that pier. Be careful of the locals at the end of the pier. Their attitude can ruin your day.

So i went out this morning and got out mid way. Crabbed from 12-3 and got only 1 keeper. Lots of undersized and prego crabs

Dropping by the Pacifica Pier now. As I see it, if you’re brave enough to join the crabbers might as well bring a metal helmet and ear plug. 😁

Last two times I went there during crab season the pier was packed and the people were friendly.

The weather was really nice for the opener (by Pacifica standards). Same results as always there. Lots of shorts, mostly females, many with eggs. I managed 1 keeper male and was happy with that. I'd say it was indeed much more crowded this year. I picked a less than ideal spot but I was jammed in there and lines were crossed various times. Problem is some people don't know to tighten up their lines and they drift too much even though the current didn't seem that bad. I need more snares. Is Sofa King and his fine snares still around somewhere?

I went out to Ocean Beach with my dad for the opener, we managed 9 keepers from noon to 5pm. Went to check out the pier afterward and just like you folks were saying it was pretty rough, and not a lot of keepers even out at the end. I'll be back this weekend to hit up the beach if anyone would like to join.

Swells/waves weren’t too bad for me. I was probably running 6 ounces of lead plus bait and my snare was holding down fine.
