Capitola Wharf 11/22

#1
Drove out for a cheap crab trap and a good excuse to take a break from the rain in the bay area. Fished from 7AM - 9:30AM. When I arrived I was told by the tackle shop attendant she would be opening the gate to the other half of the pier but when it started to rain she would leave and lock the gate. Threw the cast net once and caught several pounds of small 3-4 inch anchovies, and promptly released the vast majority. Unfortunately many of them got stuck in the net which made for a long and tedious task. Caught two smallish kingfish and a small round ray on cut anchovy, nothing on live anchovy on the bottom. Smelt were not biting shrimp or squid on the float, but I caught 3 large ones on live anchovies under a bobber for crab bait. Seemed slow but I've only been to this pier a couple times and the winter is hard.
