Cabrillo pier and light lines and halibuts

#1
Just wanted to make a general post on why I use such light line, especially at this pier it's quite shallow and the halibut tend to be fairly small, I also stick to small swimbaits as well 2 inch at the most, smaller the better, halibut love shiny worm thingys for some reason,Ive hooked on to monster halibut with small lures, I use a daiwa saltist 2500 and I slap that on a trout rod I got from walmart, I just practice catch and realease so I am not after any monsters just enjoying the sport.
As far a lines 4lb, 6lb, 8lb I dont go over 10lb test, halibut are not line shy from what I have seen, I just adjust if it super windy or not or if the current is strong.
Dropshot is my go to rig.

For the bait fishers out there I see often anglers using anchovies, the biggest Ive seen caught was probably over 40 inches.

Let's have a discussion, and happy fishing
