Berkeley Pier

This is going to take forever if they can ever pull it off but there's some interesting designs they're considering. Slides 27 thru 31, they're not necessarily improving the fishabilty of the pier but rather taking away from it. However it's is no surprise given that the only thing guiding any sort of restoration is integrating a ferry system. If the ferry system can't get done the pier won't either IMO.

Ironically at the bottom of the main page is "other information" a link to a closure notice and to PFIC so you can go find another pier to fish.

Well, they’ve changed their minds like the tides. Before they said if they don’t do a ferry pier, they will see how much it will cost to repair the existing pier. The other ferry prototype they had before had an AC Transit logo on it. We’ll see, but it appears they are all revenue driven. Looks like at least another 5 years, but I’m not sure how fast this type of construction will take? The pier has been closed for (6) years already with nothing at all done (except planning).

It's really unfortunate that neither Berkeley nor Albany can take advantage of their massive waterfront. Look at San Francisco and Sausalito's thriving waterfront. I've joked with a friend before that the city of Berkeley should first focus on fixing the roads leading to the pier before they even think about fixing the Berkeley Pier. It's not happening any time soon.

It's ludicrous. Good way to ruin your alignment, driving the horrid Berkeley Marina entrance road. Incidentally, it's been pretty dead on the rocks for live bait and lure fishing.

Bill, having been born in Berkeley, property owner in Berkeley, went to school in Berkeley for 17 years, the last thing I would want is for Berkeley to be like Sausalito. I already hate what they’ve done with the waterfront around 2nd to 4th Streets.

It was better the way it was with places like Spengers, Celias, and Brennans.

There will have to be some serious engineering to solve the road problem at the foot of University Ave. as it crosses Frontage Road and approaches Marina Blvd. There is water under there that causes all that rippling and that strip of road is redone about every (15) years going way back.

For a presumed ferry service, the roads would need to be widened; the entire area from Frontage Road going across to the DoubleTree Hotel to Marina Blvd. back to University Ave. would have to be landscaped and made into parking (possibly multi tiered). Also, the old road leading to the dump (Yes Chavez Park was Berkeley Dump when I was a child) would need to be reopened (the road from Frontage right back to the Double Tree).

The Irony of it all: In the wealthy community of Point Richmond, they are against development and pro Open Space.
