Belmont Pier - 12/26

#1
Been trying to make bait for last couple weeks. Decided to give Belmont a try after blanking at Redondo on Sat, however blanked again. Is it me or the macks been hard to come by lately? Got to the pier 3PM and fished til 7. Landed 1 lonely mack, 2 short sandies, couple of smelts. Didn't see anyone else get a single mack. By the way, the water was chocolate brown and tide was way way low. Never seen it so low before on both piers. And on top of that, the sea dog wouldn't leave us alone. So, I'm saving you time and gas.

Anyone have update where macks are present or biting? I guess, I'll give newport a tried soon.

I was at the Newport Jetty a couple late morning in a row last week and there were no macks at the end on a falling tide just after high tide. Good luck finding them! I'm sure persistence will pay off eventually.

I've found that mackerel prefer a high or incoming tide, as I did not see any caught at Huntington Pier on the 23rd.

Hi, Pacific mackerel are not here mostly, but you can catch plenty of the brown mackerel aka Jack Mackerel, just use size 8 sabiki with 1 oz sinker or metal jig on the bottom, let sink to the bottom, jig up and down while staying close to the sea floor, good luck!!!
