Had the good fortune of spending a weekend at Balboa/Newport beach. Fished Balboa pier on Saturday and Sunday mornings. My success was limited to one Thornback Ray and a dozen Lizardfish on Saturday with similar results on Sunday - one Thornback Ray and three Lizardfish. I tried using the Lizardfish as bait. But, no takers on either day.
Both mornings the Lizardfish were plentiful and caught by many fishermen. On Saturday a few Jacksmelt were also caught by the locals. Sunday was relatively quiet.
On Monday there was a very strong morning wind. I walked the pier and saw about five fishermen braving the wind. All buckets appeared empty.
I rode my e-bike to Newport pier on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The only fish getting caught were Lizardfish and a few Jacksmelt on all three days.
Overall a beautiful beach weekend with a limited fish bite.
Good luck everyone!
