Trying to focus on some positive news — and thinking of driving vs. virus — Maybe the coronavirus is saving lives? The average DEATHS PER DAY in the US due to car accidents is 3287. The coronavirus deaths to date, after many weeks, is a little over 1400. Given how empty our roads are, I imagine deaths in the US are way, way down

on the other hand: by the sounds of SFgate, CHP is reporting an increase of excessive speed (100mph+) violations. Either way, be safe out there folks!

this weekend is the great experiment to see if the 2nd wave is going to hit after everybody is all let out. counties are easing restrictions all over except some places like Santa Clara county and LA.

These numbers do not mean jack, if it is not one who is close to us.

Let a son die, and then let's see how we feel about the numbers.

Let any close family member, or someone you knew die, and then let's see how it affects us.

One death that could have been prevented is one too many.

Let us not sugar coated it with other statistics.

A death is a death and if people who are stopped from going to a doctor or hospital because of the coronavirus scare are dying it's just as bad if not worse than the restrictions. 99% of the people who catch the virus survive since it mainly targets those who are old and already have pre-existing conditions. Common sense should dictate a relaxation of the directives, especially a relaxation concerning visiting your own doctor or hospital, but common sense has taken a backseat to fear, a fear that is often irrational and one that does more harm than good.

Not true. I saw my doctor for my yearly physical. I had to, due to an issue that could not be handled over the phone.

Of course you have other source besides Fox News to back up this.

We have lost members here long before the Covid-19. Those of us who knew them and even fished with them were saddened by the loss.
Even members who only knew them through this website were feeling bad about the loss.

The number of members lost is so minute compare to nearly 98,000 human beings who have died. Let me repeat….98,000 so far. It will be more. That is a fact.

Each death must have come by victim’s close contact with a carrier, or sick person.

Each death has/is effecting many other people around them. Loss of parents, siblings, friends, etc.

This is a tragedy that could have been prevented if not all together, by at least many thousands.

I hope we see not many of these kind of hardships in the future.

I have made an old insurance commercial motto my motto for many years. "The best protection is prevention"

Did you read the article? Although you may have seen your doctor, a great many others who should be seeing them are not, that's the point. A great many people are dying — they are not going to their doctors, they are not having their checkups (even those originally scheduled), and are not getting the treatments necessary to keep them healthy and alive. People are dying of heart conditions, of cancer, and of other afflictions because they are scared to leave their homes. Their deaths are just as important as any coronvirus deaths yet people choose to simply overlook them. Doctors are the ones who are now saying this needs to change but people today are unwilling to listen to the same medical people giving advice that they based their original fears upon. If you believed Drs. Fauci and Birx originally you should listen to them now, they are saying (for health reasons) that things need to open up. Some hospitals have closed, many hospitals still do not permit non-emergency operations, thousands of nurses have been laid off, and many predict the health system itself may not recover unless change occurs fairly soon. It has nothing to do with politics, and nothing to do with any TV network, it does have to do with the medical advice from the experts.

By the way, from day one it's been clear and widly reported by EVERYONE that the main people who needed to fear the virus were people over 65 and those with pre-existing medical conditions—heart problems, high blood pressure, breathing problems, etc. And, it's been proven true by the high percentage of those who have actually died being elderly, especially those in nursing homes (a disgrace). The vast majority of younger people, even if they tested positive, haven't had problems. If people are so worried they should simply quarantine the elderly, say anyone over 65, and not let them mix with the general population, their families or friends. I'm in that group both age wise and health wise but would be willing to be quarantined (even more than now) if the rest of society could open up.
