Angel Shark at Balboa Pier

Today I had just put a medium sized smelt on my larger pole. As I turned to walk away the angel shark grabbed the bait and oh did he run with it. He went towards Ruby's but I finally got her to the surface to see what I had. It was my first Angel Shark. She was about 5 feet long and from 40 to 50 pounds. Very beautiful fish! Watching her move her head back and forth I could tell I wouldn't have her too much longer. That was it for today.

Congratulations! Thank you for sharing. How did you hook your smelt bait? Tail, mouth, dorsal fin, etc

I caught my first Angel shark last December. It went after some cut squid. Good luck!
