Ran across this old post from twenty years ago. It was a pipedream sort of thought and we never made the trip much to my chagrin. Of course I think looking back we would have needed more days but it would have been fun.

bus and take a pier rat trip down the coast. We could call the bus the "Pier Rat Haven," take along a few refreshments, and hit three or so piers a day between San Francisco and San Diego.
Day 1 — Pacifica, Santa Cruz, and Monterey Wharf #2.
Day 2 — San Simeon, Cayucos (or Morro Bay), and Avila/Port San Luis.
Day 3 — Gaviota, Goleta, and Ventura.
Day 4 — Malibu, Santa Monica, and Redondo Beach.
Day 5 — Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, and Newport/Balboa.
Day 6 — San Cemente, Oceanside, and Crystal Pier.
Day 7 — Ocean Beach, Imperial Beach, and Shelter Island/Embarcader Marina.

Sort of a merry pranksters tour of the coast.

It would certainly be interesting! Need Songslinger along for some music and Pierhead to provide the philosophic topic for the day. I will identify the fish although it would be cool to invite Milton Love. And if Ron, Songslinger and James were all there we could give tackle seminars at the piers. Maybe a class on Big Hammers from Pete at Goleta, a class on corbina from Mola Joe, a halibut seminar from Snookie, and a search for the elusive corvina and bonefish in San Diego.
