Happy holiday everyone!!! I have good news, got back to trying to fish for squid at Oceanside pier and it was a success, I got 8, with all of them on Sabiki rig and Daiso 18g jig, none on squid jig surprisingly. I think the key is light shining onto the water, they are attracted to the light, and no need to use any squid jig, just use small sabiki and you will find them!!! IMG_2898.jpg

I'm surprised that the squid jig did not work. Nonetheless I'm glad you got success getting fresh squid. :)
Thank you MisterT. I think it maybe partly because the Daiso squid jig is a lil too big, and these are small squids, only about 4 or 5 inches at most, and user error, I have never used any squid jigs before.... But it is good that we can catch squid with regular hooks :)

I tried to catch squid at San Clemente (at the end) tonight with the Daiso jig and failed. Did you catch the squid at the end of piers? Interestingly, I caught 2 octopus at the middle of the pier on a sabiki tonight instead.

Hi, yes at the end of the pier, also make sure you have light shining onto the water, and put the Daiso jig at the bottom of the sabiki, and make sure the hooks are sharp. What I do is let it sink to about 10 feet, then slowly bring it up to about 4 feet, if no taker than repeat that action, watch your line, if on the drop you see line go slack then reel in, you may have something on there, and if on the reel up you feel something heavy keep reeling in, there might be a squid. With squid bite you will not feel any shaking, it just feels heavy like a snag.

That's good! Are the squid going to be used for bait, or are you eating them?

So cool! I was at Newport pier when someone caught a single squid like you did at Oceanside. Good for you for going back and getting on a more solid bite! Your light is magic! I just bought a light and will try it at the piers around central OC and report back!
