Arrived at the pier around 10:30 in the morning to find a couple of regulars who informed me the striper bite was slow and there had been a lot of rays. My girlfriend and I caught shiner perch and smelt for bait and started fishing by 11:30, with three rods with live bait and one with dead smelt for sharks. Pretty immediately after getting all the lines out we got a big hit, which I thought was a stingray initially. Then it turned directions and jumped once, revealing itself as a striped bass before coming unhooked while trying to get it in the net. Our next bite came at 3, and it came on the dead smelt. It was a big leopard shark, which got released after an epic battle. No idea on the weight but it's definitely the biggest one I've ever caught. Half an hour later the striper came back, this time we were able to land it. It was a smaller fish than the one that escaped, about 19.5 inches. We left at 4.
