1/27 Imperial Beach pier

#1

Yesterday went to the pier looking to catch something, bait was scarce as the wind was low until it went 22mph so I called it a day. When walking up I noted to take photos of the current buoys stuck on the pilings near the surf zone and here are the photos. There are a lot of traps stuck under there and its the guys that sets their traps off the pier in the distance. Not sure who is the owner, the buoys are on 2 seperate pilings also, not the same photo.

Slow fishing, some smelt on sabiki water was clear nice color. The 7 gill was caught by Danny on 1/13/2025 not sure if anyone follows local fb groups but there are fish reports there too so thought I would share it here. Some perch are showing up but still smaller side, no sardines found around only smelt 4-5 inch sizes and micro size.

Thanks for the report. Loved the vid. The sweep even included a glimpse the weathered railing. Amazing how it captured the feeling of being there. Good job communicating all that.

They were from the king tides in december the local commercial lobster fishermen didn't remove his traps in time or didn't care and thats how they ended up there. There was also a yellow weather buoy that washed to the front of the back of the pier but has been removed since maybe 3 weeks ago by the reseearch team
