It's hard to tell from the photo. California halibut have a lateral line that arches over the pectoral fin whereas dabs have a straighter lateral line. All the juvenile halibut I've caught also have fairly also well defined white spots near the fins, at least the ones I've seen from SF Bay...

You are correct of course. Close parking spots can be $50 or more on gameday. I live out in the Avenues and could take the N-Judah streetcar but I would want to pack light. A collapsible rod and a small tackle bag I suppose.

Lawson Landings fishing report this past week noted that baitfish are finally moving into Tomales Bay. I wonder if the same is also happening now in SF Bay? I did see terns working the shoreline at Crissy last week.

Got my first of the year casting from shore in SF Bay. At 15.5 inches, nothing to write home about. It was returned safely and gently back into the bay. But it was a happy event nonetheless. Fished from 6:30a to 8:30a for one bite and one fish. Looking forward to something bigger.

I bet it has extra vertebrae. Would be interesting to see an X-ray.

Is the amount of upwelling tracked and plotted on a yearly basis? I'm curious to see which years were high upwelling years and which ones were low. I imagine there might be an online resource for this.

Great info! I know this has probably been discussed before, but why the decline in starry flounder, esp. on the central coast? I thought the decline was limited to SF Bay.
