    Spot Burning?

The New Reality It's going to take some getting used to for a lot of us older anglers. Things have changed a lot from what we would have called the good old days. Youtube, social media and the growth of local fishing clubs have added a new element to the locations where we fish. It's the "new...

    Spot Burning?

Yep. Heard it's become a madhouse. There are reliable reports of the location becoming so crowded that some of the anglers are arriving earlier than 3am and sleeping at the pier to make sure they get a primo spot!

    Spot Burning?

Here's another "odd" photo recently posted on social media. And just like last year's photo, this one's a "Frankenstein". There are at least two different locations in the photo that have been stitched together so that they appear to be a single spot somewhere along the San Francisco waterfront.

5 Foot White Sea Bass Caught at Newport Pier

28.35. WHITE SEABASS. (a) Minimum size: Twenty-eight inches total length or twenty and one-half inches alternate length. (b) Season: Open all year. (c) Limit: Three, except that only one fish may be taken in waters south of Pt. Conception between March 15 and June 15. There doesn't seem to be a...

5 Foot White Sea Bass Caught at Newport Pier

That looks absolutely ridiculous! I would love to hear the details about the gear he was using. Technique, tackle, and whether he was targeting WSB or other fish.

    LuckyCraft Lures & Halibut —

I think I got that one beat. A few years ago while fishing at Fort Point (Torpedo Wharf), a young man was using his prized "LC" to plug for stripers from the pier. On one of his casts, SNAP GOES THE LINE and his lure goes sailing away heading east with the current. In a panic, the guy hands...

list of public piers and jetties

Does anyone have more information about pier 45 in San Francisco? Didn't know it was a "public pier". I had always assumed you needed a license because of commercial fishing operations at the pier. Is the whole pier open to fishing or just a small section?

Is E2 Pier Open on Yerba Buena Island?

Speaking of sturgeon, has anyone had luck from shore this season? If you have pics and details, please post them.

The newest video — Fishing the Cabrillo Mole

Nicely done. Good intro and conclusion. It might be a good idea to insert a "break" in the middle portion of the video. Just a segment with music and footage similar to some of the scenes in the intro. It gives the viewers some time to soak up of the information that was already presented. And...

    Chase Center Halibut

I guess I'll just go ahead and "spill the tea" about the young man in the photos. He does "work" at Chase Center. And although it's hard to see in the pics, the guy stands 7 feet tall and has a 7'4" wingspan. He's probably one of the very few Bay Area pro athletes that fishes locally, and he's...

    Chase Center Halibut

A fellow fisherman spotted these pics on Instagram. It's always nice when you can walk across the street from your place of work and do a little fishing during a lunch break.

Pier Fishing In California You Tube

He was a wonderfully down-to-earth host! Enjoyed watching his California Gold episodes. Especially the one where he got to ride along with the guys stocking trout in secluded high lakes from an airplane. Huell almost "lost his lunch" that time.

I was able to attend the entire Webinar. This was the meeting specifically for the Recreational Fishing Sector. There were about 47 in attendance. Nor Cal represented 41% of the attendees, So Cal 30% and Central Cal 26%. Most of those in attendance were boat, skiff or kayak anglers. Shore...

How many oldsters remember these pictures and the story behind them?

I was there on the day that photo was taken. I was the unnamed "guy" in Phong's original report who landed the forth fish. It was the first time I had fished Berkeley Pier for halibut, and I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. Out at the end of the pier, I met these two kids that helped me...
