San Clemente 9-1 NO bonito :(

Just left Oceanside and saw 2 Bonito caught . Stayed for about 1.5 hours. As For myself, I had 1 follow with no takers. They were pushing up bait occasionally too. A little more lively than San Clemente.

San Clemente 9-1 NO bonito :(

Fished from 10-2. No signs of life like there was on Tuesday and Wednesday. Threw a bubble and feather for hours, not even a follow. Where are the bonito?

8/26 San Clemente Pier - Bonito

A lucky craft alone will not work. I use a golf ball with a 10’ 15lb leader. Keeps the bait working like it should!

8/26 San Clemente Pier - Bonito

I decided to venture down to San Clemente this morning to see if there was any bonito action. Fished the pier from 6-9 this morning for a limit of bonito and countless follows/strikes. I started off by using a splasher + feather but they wouldn’t commit for some reason. Tried a blue feather...

    San Clemente state beach

Fished the surf for several hours yesterday 8/10/25 from 12:30-4. Used Sand crab on a Carolina rig (8lb fluorocarbon). Surf was very big making it difficult to keep a bait out there. First bite was 30 minutes in, and it was a good one. I Got this 16”+ corvina landed after a nice long battle...

Anyone else notice the decline of kingfish (white croaker) and staghorn sculpins (bullheads)...

Caught several white croaker last week at Balboa pier. Even caught one on live smelt, fishing for halibut! Also saw several juvenile bullhead caught on jigs

    Balboa 6-18-25

Fished Balboa yesterday from 1-8pm. Beautiful day and busy but not overly crowded. Mackerel were in low numbers but you could get one every 10 minutes if you were persistent. Bait was scarce,99% being lizard fish. Managed 1 keeper halibut (24”), 1 short, and lost what felt like another very...

Santa Cruz Surf fishing +- 100 miles

Made a recent trip down to Santa Cruz and decided to bring a rod with me and a Kastmaster 1OZ/bucktail combo. Ended up stopping at Davenport beach where I trekked down and decided to make some casts. Swell was big.. at least 7' and water was full of kelp. I decided to throw my Kastmaster anyway...

Nicely done once again. I’ll be in the area Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Not sure if you ever fish with anyone or want to show a southern Californian the ropes.

Late Cabrillo Mole 9-22/9-23 Bonito, garibaldi, wrasse and calico.

Sounds like a great time! I’d enjoy the opportunity if that was an invitation.

Late Cabrillo Mole 9-22/9-23 Bonito, garibaldi, wrasse and calico.

Made my way out to the mole on 9/22/24 for a couple days of fun on the island with my lovely girlfriend, most of which wasn't fishing. Smooth Ferry ride over from Newport with 3' swells at 16 seconds. After a day of exploring I was lucky enough to hit the mole, but no luck after maybe 100 casts...

    No one's fishing?

Fished oceanside pier on Sunday. We showed up around 8:30am, roughly 2 hours before high tide. As we arrived we heard rumors of a 30" halibut caught. Sure enough, one of the locals fishing live smelt caught a behemoth of a halibut... Good sign! Started fishing the smelt Hayabusa Sabiki on my...

    Balboa Harbor

Fished balboa harbor on Sunday for the incoming evening tide. Fished with mussel and live smelt. Was able to manage 6 spotted bass up to 13.5" and 2 calico bass up to 10", in just 2 hours. Live smelt was the ticket but was able to manage 2 fish on Mussel.
