How many read the articles? Too long?

I've read almost all the bay area pier articles and most of the fish articles, especially for ones I'm trying to catch for the first time. I really enjoy the historical facts and accounts in some of the pier articles. The way they're subdivided makes it easy enough to jump around and find some...

    Zoom Flukes

I caught a tiny halibut on a white zoom fluke and darter head at crissy field a few years ago. Usually use other types of lures but clearly it does work.

Where to crab at Tomales Bay?

I've only fished it once, never did any crabbing. Best info I can offer is that the current is often strong due to the shape of the bay, and there was a lot of floating eelgrass when I was there.

    San Francisco Bay fish...

White Croaker: never caught or seen one from a SF bay pier. Staghorn Sculpin: I have only caught this once in the bay, from the Point Richmond pier. Perch: I've caught all the structure-loving perch at least once in the bay but haven't been fishing long or often enough to notice any trends...

Would McNears Pier be a productive spot for kids to fish this weekend?

The Dumbarton Bridge fishing pier is the closest one I can think of. The catch there is mostly small leopard and smoothhound sharks, could make for a fun day of fishing.

Two Questions for Surf Perch Fans

The last time I prepared one, pulled off the skin leaving the head and tail on, made cuts in the sides and fried it until it was crisp on both sides. That turned out pretty good I recall.

    Pacifica 8/20

Arrived at the pier at 9:30am. There were a lot of people fishing, concentrated at the surf zone and out at the end especially. I spent most of my time fishing at the end and also tried closer to the surf for a bit around noon but got nothing there. Action was slow overall, people were catching...

    Tiburon 6/30

I got to Elephant Rock pier at 2pm, tide was low and starting to come back in (next high was 8:30 that evening) It was very crowded and I considered leaving but I saw some rainbow perch in peoples' buckets and decided to stick around and try for one since I've only caught that kind once and...

    Stintson Beach 2/20

I got to the beach at about 4:30pm during incoming tide, fished until 6. I had used up most of my day trying other spots in Marin and catching nothing. I started using a 1.5 oz sliding egg sinker, 18” leader and size 6 circle hook with a live pileworm as bait. Tried finding a spot where there is...
