I've read almost all the bay area pier articles and most of the fish articles, especially for ones I'm trying to catch for the first time. I really enjoy the historical facts and accounts in some of the pier articles. The way they're subdivided makes it easy enough to jump around and find some...

I caught a tiny halibut on a white zoom fluke and darter head at crissy field a few years ago. Usually use other types of lures but clearly it does work.

I've only fished it once, never did any crabbing. Best info I can offer is that the current is often strong due to the shape of the bay, and there was a lot of floating eelgrass when I was there.

White Croaker: never caught or seen one from a SF bay pier. Staghorn Sculpin: I have only caught this once in the bay, from the Point Richmond pier. Perch: I've caught all the structure-loving perch at least once in the bay but haven't been fishing long or often enough to notice any trends...

How did the fight with this one compare to other types of rays?

The Dumbarton Bridge fishing pier is the closest one I can think of. The catch there is mostly small leopard and smoothhound sharks, could make for a fun day of fishing.

The last time I prepared one, pulled off the skin leaving the head and tail on, made cuts in the sides and fried it until it was crisp on both sides. That turned out pretty good I recall.
