Where are the salmon?

Sounds like a fish will be coming along in about 5.33 hrs........just 2 more trips. Actually those stats aren't so bad. I used to fish the San Lorenzo River in Santa Cruz for steelies. The DF&G creel census data in those days (decades ago) showed catch rate at 0.02 fish/man-hr or 50 hrs/fish
and that includes the smaller "egg-eaters" too so for a decent size fish, the stats are even leaner.

5/16. Something more 1/2 ounce, not 3/4’s.
3/4’s gets snagged too much at 1st. Use the 7/8ths at the state park where it is deeper.
You don’t have to cast too far. If you have a light spinning outfit or low profile bait/caster, you can get out far enough to get bit. We used to use 12# mono as the standard before to cast with. Some now will use 20-30# braid primarily. Pam at Benicia Bait will tell you the exact same thing about the lure weight. And her VeeZee lures work as well as any Mepps.

It was a good morning in Benicia for salmon, over 20 fish landed if the Facebook posting is correct. This would be a good time to try. It's pretty crowded though.

Sunday was *almost* as good as Saturday, with about 20 fish caught. Unfortunately I wasn't one of the lucky ones this weekend because I reset my 1000 cast counter the previous Sunday with a 14 lber at the state park. Hopefully another salmon will be waiting for me next weekend.

Well I couldn't wait till the weekend. My *cough* Salmon Fever *cough* started acting up so I called in sick and went to the "doctor" on 1st Street for a "therapy session" yesterday 10/9. Hallelujah I was "cured" and caught a 15lb male. About a dozen others were "cured" of their illness too.

How do they catch them in HMB? Using the same spinners? I assume this is in the harbor, or outside? What is a good time/tide to try it. I'd like to give it a shot.

They floss for salmon. Set-up can be found on Youtube.

Today have seen a lot of tiny baitfish - may be small anchovy.
Birds dived unstoppable very close to shore and moved from Marina to Golden Gate.
May be smelt and later - stripers will follow.
Sardine and mackerel have disappeared for long time...:cry:
