Fred Hall Show (FHS) has been cancelled.

For those who do not know about FHS's yearly show in Long Beach, it is one of, if not the biggest fishing (and sad to say) recently hunting show in California.

UPSAC used to have a booth there to sign up members.

I have been going since 2006 and it is where I met Skipper Jones and other old timers in person for the first time.

Wasv hoping to go down to their Del Mar version but I guess it too is cancelled. Too many covid requirements from what I hear.

They had the ISE in Sacramento. I didn’t go, but Doug/Dave went and said that there wasn‘t a big turnout, therefore they felt it wasn’t as good. I mentioned that I probably would have had a better time at an event with a small attendance because those events get really crowded.

The only ISE (International Sportsmen Exchange) I’ve been to is the 1 attended (you were there) at the old Bay Meadows Race Way in San Mateo.

They blame the government regulation for the cancellation. How stupid.

Their website says the San Diego show dates TBD!!!!

I noticed more and more fishing venders were pulling out and being replaced with non-fishing related (safes, pillows, etc.) and hunting booths.

The parking cost, glass of beer at $10.00 and expensive food is a big factor. Add to that the cost of entrance ($15.00 at Del Mar).

The covid restrictions excuse was just spin control. The show was bought 4 years ago from the Hall family by a show production company. They hired the Halls and their management team to run it. Needless to say both sides are currently suing each other. That is the real reason the show was cancelled. The company I work for was scheduled to set up and take care of the trout pond and the bass casting tank. We were on the phone with them going over logistics on friday and then on saturday or sunday they called us to to cancel. At least we got a phone call. Everybody else got an email. Covid restrictions were never mentioned once in at least a dozen phone calls and meetings. The lawsuit sure was though.

Thank you for update and information.

Too Bad. My first visit there was about 30 +- years ago, if memory serves. I bought a tile/glass cutter, fishing knot tool and a folding picnic table.

Then after 2006, when I met the Skipper, was every year. It was like a reunion with a lot of friends.

It was a lot of fun when we had the UPSAC crew and our video — "You Don't Need A Boat To Go Fishing."
