When you foul hook something it is much harder to fight the fish since you cannot control its head. If there is a good current running they can even take you broadside. The fight is much, much tougher! I've foul hooked a few stripers when using bait. Each time I swore I had a trophy until I pulled it in and saw it was foul hooked. Regardless, must have been exciting!
