I'd certainly vote for San Clemente-- nice folks, regulars that at best will give you free bait, a loaner set-up, and take the most novice tourist under his wing to show him the ropes... and at worst, just smile and nod, and leave you to your own devices.
Still, I'm more or less of the opinion that the reason SC is a nice pier is because the "unfriendlies" are at other piers. God forbid some Chowderhead decides that today's the day he's going to head out to a new pier, and then arrive with a chip on his shoulder. If that's you, stay at your own pier. Charity begins at home.
