|Event:||Diamond Classic Derby-Kids Division|
|Date:||Sat Jan 26 2013|
|Description:||It is time for the 7th annual Diamond Classic Catch & Release Sturgeon Derby. The Derby is on Saturday, January 26th and the seminar will be on Friday, January 25th, 2013. |
Baitchucker aka Tacofish is putting a lot of energy and time into the kids program again this year. Along with Steve Talmadge of Flash Fishing and others, they have expanded the kids' program to the Martinez Pier for those less fortunate youths that aren't able to get on a boat. Captain Steve also has a few captains that are donating their time and boats to take kids out. He has attached the rules and regulations for the youth category: Diamond Classic Rules
Any youth who would like to fish on a boat or the Martinez Pier for free can contact the Martinez Bait Shop to find out which boats have room and information about the pier. Patrick Avellino is Steve's pier director and has contacted Ken Jones from United Pier and Shore Anglers of California (UPSAC) and pierfishing.com. They are both on board 100% to help the kids on the pier along with volunteer adults. We will have equipment available for any kids that need it. Martinez Bait Shop is donating all the bait for the kids and everything will be free. We are receiving a tremendous amount of support for the Derby and the youth program.
We already have some great prizes like custom rods, Accurate reels and tackle. More donations, gifts and prizes for the youth program would be appreciated. Anyone interested should visit the website at www.diamondclassic.org.

Please feel free to bring your kids, your kids' friends, your Neighbors' kids... And your neighbors' kids' friends!
UPSAC has provided the loaner rods for kids that may not have one. The pier officials are all from pierfishing.com: IllCatchAnything2, Red Fish, Mel, StripedSideChaser, and SofaKing.
We should all be very proud that The organizers have completely left the officiating and logistics to the volunteers of PFIC. Proof positive that when PFIC/UPSAC hosts an event, the event is organized, well ran, & kid safe!
Last year, 82 kids fished the derby. All 82 kids walked away with, at least, one prize. With PFIC/UPSAC running the pier event, the organizers at hoping for, at least 200 kids!
Free entry + Good Prizes + C&R ANY Fish = Good Times!

Thanks to Patrick Avellino aka Tacofish aka Baitchucker on PFIC for putting on a first-class event! Good food and fun for all... and thank you to Steve Talmedge "Flash Fishing" and the gals at Martinez Bait and Tackle for your support with the kids pier division of the Diamond Classic!
