For those who have never done this the basic gear would be what you would use for pier sharks or rays. Same terminal gear too, a sliding sinker rig. Note: 6 to eight ounce pyramid weights (if you can use spider weights or sputnik type) to hang in the current off the front of piers with swift moving currents (you can get away with three or four ounce pyramids if you fish off the sides with the direction of the tide). A plastic slydo or snap-swivel of around 1/0 and a bead to attach weight. For leader, you can purchase a packaged sturgeon leader by Pucci/Southbend/Hayward Tackle or just use a short lentgh of mono of about 40-80# and a hook of about 5/0-70 depending on bait.

Sample outfits that will work: 1.) a 7-12 foot spinning rod rated lift to medium action approx:12-40/spinning reel rated minimum 200yds of 20# mono. 2.) Conventional set up 6'6" - 11' rod light to medium action 12-40/reel minimum 200 of 20# mono (if you use braided line 40-80).

Bait: shrimp baits of grass/ghost/mud. Anchovies, herring. Lamprey eel, salmon roe.

Add some sewing string or magic string to attach bait and your set.

We can share landing crab nets and snares.. fish can also be walked to shore if people are more comfortable with that. Note: you should net or snare your own fish unless you are comfortable with someone else doing it!
