fished briefly after work on the shores of the smelly and dusty west carquinez strait before the storm. Fished near to a guy who was sleeping holding his rod and reel and he didn't notice me casting 12 times then leaving.

He did notice me netting my first striper of the year about 100 yards away. hahaha. Got a 24" skinny strong striper on a swimbait. finally.

got it with my new Cabela's travel rod and Abu Garcia 5500 (going old school here). I use travel rods for packing into my small car. My older travel rod has traveled to the philippines and is dependable after 10 years.

Thanks for the report Alan! My old 5500C is still performing well from when I won it in a PFIC raffle that Steve Chon donated years ago. I’ve used it from kayaking to plugging and it is still in great condition. I still haven’t “bailed out” any low-profile baitcasters yet.

Keep the reports coming. I am going to start throwing a few white swimbaits along with some smelt colors as the fish are still spread out a little for bait and wait.
Hopefully halibut will make their way all the way in the gate in the upcoming weeks.

Looks like white is a popular color. I see it in charter boats quite often for rockfish.
