I've given Baker and China Beach a few shots in the past 10 days or so, perfect conditions, fishing into low tide, and frankly it's been dead. I've pulled up a few short males is all. Moved up and down the beach with little change. Squid, and fish scraps as bait, and SofaKing snares.

Anyone doin better at China / Baker / Ocean? So far it feels to me at least like the crabs are still out deeper perhaps.

I guess that's why they call it fishing right? Happy Holidays to you all (and snares full of crab).

Its been pathetic for me also, I've been out most days since the opener and I have had only 1 keeper. A lot of days I got skunked and the days when they were there they were all shorts. Baker Beach, China Beach, Ocean Beach and HMB Jetty for me. Conditions have been really good too, low swells and small waves for the most part.
Frustating as heck.

Iíve been pulling up plenty of keepers (males too) at Ocean Beach. They are all along its entire stretch but Iíve been mainly between Quintara and Taraval. Yesterday morning from 7-8:30 I pulled out 5. All over 6Ē.

Tomorrow (11/21) has another low swell and that current ought to be weakening all the way through to the weekend. So Iíd give OB a try on an incoming tide. They come in super close as well so you donít need to bomb it out there.

I went to HMB South yesterday at around 2:30 PM. People said the bite died an hour before. Didnt pull anything up. Used squid and mack. Didnt see anyone else pull anything up either. I did see a few catch some rockfish.

Went out to OB this morning after reading sea_forager's report. I caught 4 shorties and 1 keeper from 9:00 to noon.

Bummer. The only time I could get out today was between 2-4pm which was on the outgoing tide and not a great time to rustle up nearshore dungies. Managed to bag 3 keepers and spotted a number of shorts in the shallows but yeah, it was slim pickings out there today. Also ran into a kind of crab graveyard around Santiago; I counted 6 large dead dungeness just kind of floating about in one area. Couldn't tell if the currents just pulled them all to that spot or if something went on a tear earlier and this was what was left. They were all big though. All easily 6"+.

For what it's worth, all the crabs I came across at OB today were males with the exception of one very gravid female. Still getting used to seeing so many males out there.

Swell is going to be up the next couple of days so I'll be trying to rustle up a rockfish or two out at Lands End, but for those looking for some more dungeness at Ocean Beach, keep an eye on the weather for Friday-Sunday. Weakest current for the rest of 2017 will be this weekend and if that swell and wind come down I bet you could do some damage out there on the incoming tide.

Went out to OB on Friday morning Nov 24 for 1.5 hours and managed 2 shorts and one keeper at 6.25 inches. I was pretty stoked. I have caught plenty of rock crab in the bay but this was my first dungie ever.

Looks like a pretty crappy season. Lucky to get half limits on the party boats. Prices are high at market. You can get lobster for s few more bucks a pound and winds up cheaper in the end. Thatís what I did haha

For those of you guys that fish Baker and Ocean, how big of a swell before it becomes unfishable. I don't want to drive all the way from San Jose to SF just to find out it's unfishable.

At Baker 4ft swell is almost too much. but with practice it can be done.
HMB south jetty I found 6ft is ok.
Never fished Ocean Beach.
I might try further north Sunday.
Sunday looks good.

At OB 5ft and under is fine but youíll want it to coincide with a day where the tidal current/coefficient is average or weaker. This Thursday through Sunday will give you that. So will 12/23 - 12/26 I believe.

The other thing is that at OB the North-South sweep current is really strong so if you donít want your snare dragged then Iíd recommend a sputnik/spider wire weight as a sinker.
