WTG-Ken, a great event! Nice shot of my hands but you can tell I don't use Palmolive liquid. Wink Cool

Agreed! I'll never forget Big Rich traveling up and helping out at the tournament as well as joining me in Eureka and Crescent City for some fishing.

Robert (redfish), V.P. of UPSAC, traveled up to the tournament, helped with the riggings, and served as a judge. He also got in a little fishing time.

I do believe we are all getting a wee bit older. Plus, I don't think Ed used to have the goatee.

Did get a chance to see Douglas and David Shigeamatsu who I had seen at the Marin Rod and Gun Club Derby. Also met Jose, a PFIC viewer who had sent me some questions about rock fishing some time ago and who I had been able to help in some small way.

Great pictures and write-up. What a fun time! Never been up to Trinidad but with friends up in McKinleyville I will definitely put that pier on my list of places to visit next time I make it that far north.

Unfortunately although the pier is in a beautiful setting and would seem to be perfect for fishing, the results over the years have been poor, especially since the original wooden pier was replaced by the concrete pier.

I only show a 2.47 fish per hour average at the pier, the lowest average for north coast piers.

Huh. That's really unfortunate. Do you think that the replacement pier had anything to do with it or is it just poorly placed? Doesn't reach out deep enough? etc..

No, the concrete pier is in the same location as the wooden pier. At first I thought maybe the bottom had been messed up or the concrete pilings did not have as much growth as the wood but given the rocks that surround the pier the fish should still be there.

To be honest I haven't really figured out why the figures are low. Of course one reason the fish per hour figures are somewhat lower is that you rarely encounter the schooling pelagic species like herring or jacksmelt that can run up the fish per hour figures.Nevertheless, the numbers are still low.

I had a couple of years when I caught large numbers of both kelp greenling and rock greenling but those years were the exception rather than the rule. Usually it's a couple of striped seaperch, a few greenling (mainly kelp greenling), c couple of rockfish (blue, black, grass) and maybe a couple of cabezon. I have encountered a few lingcod but you've got to be lucky to see one.
