>> 2 Weeks & Fishless (Help) [topic: previous/next]

I suppose it's my fault since I've fished the same spot for the last two weeks.

I've seen a few Anglers catch a Striper or two on bait.

But what's the deal here? Has Halibut fishing from shore been slow in the East Bay (exclusively ARW area)?

I strictly stick to swimbaits, 4 inches and 5 inches.

Last year I caught over dozen halibut in the month of July alone.

Any tips?

Look for the Seal Fart bubbles and cast into their wake.

I've heard the halibut and stripers have been hitting metal (kastmasters, mickey) this year.

Hmm, I posted previously but it never posted (think battery was down upon entering).

What I put in the message before was: to use 3" as well as 7" swimbaits and to also vary the jighead sizes. I.E., if you fish the shallow water of Crab Cove, use like a 1/4 ounce jig head with even like a Zoom pearl fluke or a salt n pepa.

Also, change your spot, change your luck. Don't just stick to one spot cranking your lure, run n gun.

The bite has changed some with the weather temperature and the part of the season we are in now. Places at ARW vary in depth from 5-50 feet with the 5 at Crab Cove and the 50 at the west end of the rockwall (where it opens for the ships to come in).

Depths right out in front of the ramp vary 8-13-16'. 3/4 of the way down the wall it goes to 25' and down to the end and the opening (and second perpindicular wall) 50' deep. Down there is where the 7" will get a slab with an ounce-and-half-jighead.

Honestly, when the season would get slow as fall approached later in the season, that is when I would pull out the kayak and go the channel, throw down the pick, and find the fish.

There are striper along the freeway in Emeryville, Berkeley, and Oakland (especially on hot days and clearer water). Close in near the rocks and beaches. Smaller, white smimbaits with lighter jigheads less than an ounce. There are a lot of small fish in the mix though!

Thanks everyone for the tips. I went down to Long Beach (where I grew up) for business, and fished with my brother--- caught my first fish of the summer. Came back to the Bay, and in one outing caught 5 fish.

Yea your right, the weather is odd. Just a few days ago, it felt like the Deep South.

Happy fishing ya'll.

No baitfish around Crissy fields.
Even no smelt. Very seldom...
May be therefore the big fish have been hitting metal or swimbaits.
